Re: Hockey Night In Canada 2/20 (Was: Re: CBC On Strike)

Update:

The Fan 590 just had the VP/GM of Air Canada Centre (which they've
nicknamed "The Hangar") on with Gord Stellick. (They'll have a Leafs guy on
at 5 re this as well.) He said that the game was "definitely" going to
happen, and they don't anticipate much (if any) of their staff taking the
"option" to not cross the lines in light of the excitement to open the new
place, and, in fact, that the picketers might not even be legally within
their rights to picket at the Air Canada Centre, since the Centre is not
their employer. He said, though, that the decision on televising is not
theirs, but rather the CBC's.

The station also reported that ESPN is having trouble finding freelancers
willing to do the game for the feed to the U.S. (My note: maybe because of
the fear that they might then have their work fed to the CBC?)

Also....

They're keeping Maple Leaf Gardens open for up to two years for *lacrosse*?
Sheesh. If you have to close the Gardens, it should be closed by the Leafs,
and nobody else.
