Greed?  Selling commercials is what pays the bills to keep the station on the
air so they can "serve the community" by providing the list of cancellations.
Is the station owner supposed to pay the bills out of their pocket?  Even Bob
Bitner sells time to support his stations.  There's nothing wrong in selling
special sponsorships that relate to particular programming.  You sell sporting
goods and beer during sports programming not during "Touched by an Angel."
You sell shovels and rock salt during storm announcements, not beach reports.

I think in most homes, TV is now the way people get school cancellations.  The
loss of the "no school" monopoly is a big loss for radio in terms of both
listenership and revenue.  I also don't understand why TV doesn't continue to
run the cancellations on the bottom of the screen during commercials.  If they
did, more people would watch, increasing the effectiveness of the ads.
