Re: SO many WQEW fans...it's amazing!

There was an article about the demise of WQEW's
standards format in today's Boston Sunday Globe
(written by Bob Ryan, one of their sports columnists).
I'd heard that WQEW's owners, the N.Y. Times, hadn't
publicly mentioned the format change on WQEW itself
and I think someone said that the paper is also pretty
quiet about it...meanwhile, we have a prominent
article in a paper owned by the New York Times,
the Globe.

Maybe the swing revival has something to do with it.
That TV ad for the Gap really turned some young folks
on to swing; Tony Bennett has done stuff for MTV,
and there are up-and-coming swing bands from
Bellevue Cadillac and Roomful of Blues to Big Bad
Voodoo Daddy...Also, while there are many baby boomers
into classic rock, you have to figure that some of
them got tired of Led Zep and Aerosmith, and they
can't seem to get interested in the likes of Marilyn
Manson, rap, or Alanis Morisette...and they can't get into country or
soft rock either. But Standards might be what these aging Boomers are
looking for.
In addition, the death of Ol' Blue Eyes last May
probably got even more people trying out his music.
