Very true... and I'm usually one of the folks on this list who talks
about maximizing listenership.

Umm, you mean like "All the News That's Fit to Print", right?
>All of this hand ringing amazes me.
And perhaps I'm one of the few. But as I have stated, I have enjoyed
listening to the station -- not only because of the music selection, but
also because of the formatics and professionalism of the operation.

Ouch, that hurt. But seriously, I do think my 20+ years of broadcasting
experience counts for something. I also think that Dan Stassberg made
the point that the NYT may be able to get a better deal with the leasing,
and that makes sense to me. I do think it's a natural tendency for folks
to lament the passing of a radio station. I'm sure WQEW has provided a
lot joy for regular listeners. So many people use radio as a kind of a
friend -- and I'm sure that to many, the passing of this friend is
unsettling. And to go a step further, people have often lamented such
passings -- WRKO and KHJ certainly, the classical formats on WBCN,
WTIC-FM, WHCN, WNCN and the list goes on and on. Perhaps it's just part
of the mourning process...
