I vaguely remember WBZ doing all-news or all-talk for 2-3 days after the
assassination, most smaller stations seemed to play nothing but somber
music. I know of one 12 year old kid who was bored to tears by this and
wanted to hear some music he liked on the radio.

I also recall in 1969 when Ike died, WRKO seemed to switch to a more
laid-back presentation and only play the softer songs on their playlist
(though there wasn't anything that they didn't ordinarily play...just kept
away from the more rockin' stuff).
