Re: WHIL/WWEL
WMWM at Salem State (where I've been a DJ non-stop
since 1981!) used to have some sort of Collins
transmitter/exciter. When we shut off, you could
hear a dead-air signal for a couple of blocks.
(And we were 130 watts at the time-- and still are.)
Now, when we shut off, we're shut off totally.
Now, this reminds me...a couple of times I've
driven past a supermarket or something, and picked
up "elevator music" on a frequency
where there was supposedly no station. The music
wouldn't be loud and clear...it would sound like a
"dead spot" on the dial, with faint music in the
background. Could I be picking up a sort of
satellite feed or some sort of Muzak (tm) hookup?

exciters
