Well, the Top 40 format lasted quite a few years, from about 1956 or 57 to
1962, so it must have been successful in there for at least awhile.  I
suspect it did reasonably well in the 70s, too.  But by the 80s, FM was
taking over.  From what I understand, it was starting to do well with the
WMEX oldies format until WODS came along.  That's got to be a big problem
now with AM radio.  Do well with any format and some FM station will
immitate it, with greater resources and an FM signal.
