Bill,

The networks feed their affiliates via satellite. ABC, CBS, and FOX use C-Band
and NBC uses KU-Band. Don't know if it still is, but Channel 38 used to be a
"Super Station" which means the cable company could take it of the satellite.
WNBC in  New York feeds Manhattan cable via fiber to make their video look
better.
