Quebec City AMs

Hey Bob...

Those two AMs your scan stopped on in Quebec City were...

QUEBEC CITY STATIONS!

The 800 is CHRC, the local Radiomutuel talk-news outlet, with
six towers south of Quebec City. (Montreal's 800, CJAD, is
very, very nulled to the northwest!)

The 980 is CBV - at least for the moment. It's already
simulcasting on 106.3 and the AM will go silent sometime this
winter. (Montreal's 980, CKGM, moved to 990 in the 1980s..)

But, yes, AM in Quebec, outside of Montreal, is rapidly disappearing.
About all that'll be left when the current round of apps get
approved will be 1150 in Hull, 550 in Trois-Rivieres, 630 and
900 in Sherbrooke, 900 in Rimouski, 1250 in Matane (unless the
latter two are the next to get moved to FM by the CBC,) and
a bunch of low-power relays. 1580 in Chicoutimi is already on
the way to the history books...and it's a safe bet 600 and 730
in Montreal (or perhaps 1280 if CFMB migrates again) will be
next soon.
