Unlike today, back in the 70s the FCC was trying to reduce concentration of
ownership...if I'm not mistaken any broadcast media could not be co-owned
with print media in the same market (existing cross-ownerships were
grandfathered I think).  Even new radio-tv combos were not allowed. I
remember a similar thing happening in the early 80s when ownership of
WKBW-AM and TV in Buffalo were split up, the AM had to change calls to WWKB.
