No, it's worse than that.  People Just Don't Care any more.  Having
someone actually line-edit a script (or a magazine article, or even a
book) costs money, and the corporate interests which control the media
these days would rather spend that money on stock repurchases.

(...And don't get me started at those bogus highway-map backgrounds
the TV weather people put behind their radar animations!)
