Did someone bring up Symphony Sid recently? I just came across a
mention in a clipping about a gathering of radio old-timers reminiscing
(Boston Globe, 11/27/80, p. A47):
[WNAC-TV account executive Len] Meyers recalled Symphony Sid Torin at
the old WBMS and his pitch for a record shop that went like this: "So
remember for the best in records, popular, jazz, rhythm and blues, it's
the College Music Shop at 338 Massachusetts Avenue, with Smilin' Jack,
Mr. 5-by-5 with the big fat cigar, and he's there from 9 a.m. until
11:30 p.m. six days a week."
