Brings up an interesting point though...
Too often the Boston radio AND TV news broadcasts ring with the "our news is better than your news" promotion.
In actuallity, they should be saying "Our news _Broadcasting_ is better than your news broadcasting." For the most part the five major Boston TV stations and _all_ of the radio news outlets (it is so hard to talk with my tongue so far into my cheek....) are reporting the same stories, so it is broadcast quality that becomes the differentiating factor.
The recent rains were a great example of one-ups-manship<sic> in news. How many shots of people getting rained on drive homethe point.."it's still raining".... if you can't see that you need windows, yes?
It became tiresome listening to a certain station trying to overplay the "pending disaster" of rising water. Some lowlying areas did get some flooding, but it was very funny watching these "respected journalists" clamoring to find new and unusual ways to illustrate water...wading, boating, sitting on submerged car roof, roof top, doghouses.
I heard one "newsperson" bantoring with the anchor," Let me tell you R---, this water is really wet......"
A journalism degree gets us that?
Wet Water? Who would believe!? Or was their water wetter when the water was wunning awound bwidges and out of weservoirs and down the stweet? "ooooo you wascawy Wabbit!"
My favorite sign of bad weather? "Shelby in her slicker..."
more than $.02.......
