if the country oldies show got good numbers-- in research I have seen, there
are many folks who find the current stuff rather bland and monochromatic,
and who really love the stuff from the 70s and early 80s. In markets with
two or three country stations, this all gets taken care of, but in a market
as unusual as Boston, with only one country station, a lot of great songs
 never get played. >>

The Portland Market has two country stations (WPOR and WTHT), plus WPKQ
blankets the market. All three stations do the same boring brand of "hit
country." In an interesting move, WPOR seems to be trying to sound more like
WTHT every day, despite the fact that WPOR is highly rated and WTHT is not! I
don't get it. Both stations are also full of jocks that sound like they have
little knowledge of or appreciation for the music.
