Reality time.
Even on crappy stations that no one listens to like WSRO, time usually goes
for $100-200/hr. Where are you going to find enough businesses who are
gonna advertise on a station no one listens to to cover that expense...most
of us have at least one job here, who's got the time to do all that
selling? You got a rich uncle or something? As far as programming goes
and doing "live and local" radio...what, per chance format holes are there
that anyone wants to listen to (on AM)? It's one thing to rave about Bob
Bittner's stations, but he isn't trying to make money with them (nor are
they live or particularly local most of the time either), they're more of a
hobby for him. If he can afford to do it, more power to him but the rest
of us have to do something that people other than dxers want to listen
to...why do you think so many of these graveyard channel standalone AMs run
paid religion or satellite programming 24-7...because the owner doesn't
give a sh*t? Maybe he doesn't anymore, but my guess is that most of these
stations gave it their best shot at one time, but just couldn't attract
enough audience to pay the electric bill, much less a staff and maybe even
operate in the black.
Hate to be the group pessimist, but we're talking pie in the sky here.
