If it WAS the result of a survey, then they give no specifics. The
accompanying article, titled "Corporate Radio Still Sucks," talks
about how the bignastyevil corporate broadcasters (Jacor is cited,
specifically) are dictating music playlists to stations, and about
the possible impending return of "pay-to-play" radio, albeit with
broadcasters openly disclosing that record companies are paying to
have their tracks spun.

The list is meant to give some stations that are outside the hands
of the big groups and still give their programmers independence to
add local tracks and quirky indie-label music (which is why there
are no news-talkers there, Shel!). Other "usual suspects" on the
list include the holy KPIG in Freedom, CA and KGSR in Austin, Texas.

The website at http://www.rollingstone.com does not appear to have
been updated yet to reflect the new issue (which just arrived
yesterday here), but I suspect it'll be there in a few days.
