Doug,
There is one obvious problem with the rules you posted: they're TOO
simple. Many people today do not want things they can understand. If it
isn't complicated, it can't work. The more people cannot understand
something, the better they like it.
Got out of radio several years ago and do not regret it for one nano-
second. There's no place for creativity, talent or - heaven help us -
excellence in radio today.
I would not exactly put Howard Stern or the Greaseman in the same
category as Bob Steele, Bob Emery, Carl DeSuze or Arnie Ginsburg. The
latter are professionals. The former and their peers are not poor
talents, they are simply no-talents.
Being creative, entertaining, informative and so on requires
intelligence. Sleaze takes no mental effort. None. Zilch. Nada.
But life is life, and people never get anything better than they want.
If they settle for the so-so, a PD doesn't have to work hard to furnish
it.
A lot of people will likely take exception to my remarks. So noted and
understood. Perhaps I'm a minority of one. But poor quality by any other
name is still just that:
poor.
