Subject: Update.

Remember last spring when controversial talk-show host Jerry Springer was
hired by Chicago's WMAQ-TV (the station whose studio he rents to tape his
talk show) to serve as a commentator on their evening newscast, a move
which so outraged veteran WMAQ anchors Carol Marin and Ron Magers that they
both, within a matter of days of oneanother, left the station?

Well, Ms. Marin (who now can be seen on occassion on Bryant Gumble's
struggling "Public Eye" series) has won a Peabody Award, not for her work
at WMAQ before she left, nor for her work on "Public Eye", but for
standing up for journalistic principle by quiting her job rather than
be seen on the same news program as the King Of Sleazy Talk And Fist-
 Fights.

Incidentally, Ron Magers is back in Chicago TV. He's now anchoring news
at WLS-TV, where he was hired a few weeks back to replace another
Windy City news legend, the recently-retired Floyd Kalber (Kalber also
spent some time at NBC in between his Chicago local anchor stints).
