back to the drawing board.....

Last Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays layed their first game ever, and
most of Tampa stopped to watch the game on WWWB Channel 32.

SPORTSCHANNEL FLORIDA (the only SC not converted to FOX) has the
production rights to the games and then sells 50 over the air games to
local broadcasters. When Tampa was loading the bases in the 9th inning the
feed went into the ozone.

Now all graphics and commercials were being entered onsite at Tropicana
Field, but Sportschannel's distrubution system was a little odd.

The game was fed by fiber to WTSP Channel 10, which then relayed the game
to Channel 10 in Miami by microwave, which in turn fed SPORTSCHANNEL in
Boca Raton by fiber, when then it was finally uplinked at SPORTSCHANNEL on
K band for WWWB back in Tampa. (and other stations in Central and Northern
Florida)

New solution.....install a direct microwave from Tropicana Field to
Channel 32's St Petersburg translator and then back to Tampa.

Of course the people who devised this plan, were the same that routed all
Hartford Whaler home games (cable and over the air) from Hartford to
WOBURN, to be then uplinked.

Isn't this a classic case of asking for trouble?
