And Spanish Broadcasting had to obtain a waiver to operate both WSKQ 620 and
WUKQ 1050 in the interim. Allegedly, the delay in swapping 1050 for 97.9 was
the result of problems with 1050's directional antenna system. However, Herb
Squire, who is now CE at WQEW and was CE at WHN at the time, says that that
was a smokescreen. Because the FM was far more valuable than the AM, Spanish
had to come up with a large payment to the owners of WEVD, the Forward
Assoc, and had trouble raising the money.
