A click, dead air, and then WFCC doesn't sound like tropo. That wouldn't
end with a click, dead air, then the regular station. My first guess is
that something went wrong at WFCC which somehow caused it to air the wrong
programming. My second guess might be a =nearby= pirate. That wouldn't
explain the mentions of Auburn unless you are somewhere towards Worcester
County, close enough for a pirate to be operating over in that direction.
I just checked the Archives, and WQVR Southbridge on 100.1 has a country
format. Exactly what would make it turn up down the dial, I don't know.
Could a translator for WQVR at 107.something have been conducting tests?
That's my third guess.
