Nunc pro tunc

>>I wonder if nunc and tunc aren't, themselves, abbreviations of longer
Latin words. ... can you explain, in layman's terms, what nunc pro
tunc means?<<

I believe these are full words, not abbreviations, and the expression means
"now for then", i.e., at this time as of that time (retroactively), i.e.,
we should have done this earlier, but didn't or couldn't, so we do it now,
effectively as if we had done it then. This expression is frequently used
in reinstating applications to the place they would originally have held in
the processing cue had not fundamental questions, later resolved, nixed
routine acceptance.
