I'm pretty sure that KKOB's synch amp is still on the air. I believe it is
in Santa Fe and probably operates at night only. For 38 years--I
believe--WJZ and KOB (which became WABC and KKOB during the course of all
those years) were locked in a dispute over which station had the right to
the 770-kHz clear channel. This case may hold some sort of record for the
longest running court battle in US history. Anyhow, when KOB was forced to
directionalize at night to protect WABC, it no longer could cover Santa Fe
at night. However, while it is ND during the day, KOB reportedly covers
Santa Fe very well. I think that is why KOB was allowed to construct the
synch amp and why the synch amp probably operates at night only.
