That is hard for me to believe there was much of an uproar.  The station has
been barely staying on the air through several owners and could not attract
local advertisers.  The AM (WHGS Houlton) was shut down a few years back and
the other local station WREM Monticello has gone dark.  A couple years back,
it simulcast WOZI Presque Isle for a while.  The WQDY simulcast is the second
time it has happen.  There was some controversy over the bidders for the
license.  I remember a former employee put together a bid for the station but
was out bid.  Any controversy resulted from a local bidder being out bid.  In
reality, the community did not support the station or one of the several
owners would have made a go of it.
