As a Senator, McCarthy took no part in the House UnAmerican Activities
Committee. they ran their own show. It was in that committee that Nixon
investigated Alger Hiss. And that still had nothing to do with the
"blacklist," which was run by a private concern which published "Red
Channels," a book to which most of the industry subscribed.
