I'm sure that Donna and others are more informed, but if you are inquiring
about mechancial colr television, this much I know:

The original FCC approved system for Colr TV was developed by CBS in the late
forties - early fifties.  It was indeed mechanical:  it involved a whirling
disk inside the cabinet that was in front of the picture tube.  It seemed
that the colr produced was an optical illusion, but (supposedly) gave very
true color.
