Re: reminiscing about Boston radio

Greetings:

When I lived in Rochester NY back in the 60's & 70's, WSAY-1370, then owned
by an old man Gordon Brown (radio was his toy), also broadcasted the Rosary
every evening at 7 PM. Ratings for the entire station were dismal.... under
a 1.5. HOWEVER, whenever the Rosary came on, several times a day, the
ratings shot up to a 40.0 with women over 80.

WSAY was also very unique..... as a toy, all DJ's had to be inexperienced,
and had to take a stupid name like "Mike Melody" or "Jerry Jack." WSAY went
thru 20 Mike Melodys in 10 years. But on the upside, it gave lots of people
(boys) a chance to be on the air and learn how radio is not run. Come to
think of it, they wouldn't hire any women..... never!

Having a very unprofesssional station on AM was really unheard-of in those
days.
