Around 1975 or so as I was getting older, and HDH was getting younger,
I finally became a huge Jess fan.(How many can say they switched from
Charles to Jess?) I guess you really had to be in the biz to fully
understand how good his pre-production was.
Last I heard, Pudge a few years back was running a board at WEEI. And
since Jess told this story on his last show, I feel as though I can repeat
it. Pudge lost his drivers license for a time and had no way to drive to
work. Jess solved the problem.......he picked up Pudge every morning.
As far as baseball is concerned NOTHING was better than Ned Martin and Jim
Woods on WHDH,WMEX,WITS. There were nights you would hope it would rain,
just to hear them tell stories.
It is strange how we remember what we heard so many years ago. Willing to
bet I am not the only person on this list to remember Ken Meyer's phone
number!!!!!! (That may have been the greatest cult show in the history of
Boston radio....... Travel provided by Wiggins Airways!) and talk about
pipes? How about Norm Ruby from WBOS!
