Art Laboe and "this box that talks"

     Reporting on the death of 97-year-old Los Angeles DJ Art Laboe, "The Focus" news Website in the UK said that Mr. Laboe was fascinated with radio from the moment his older sister sent him his first radio when he was 8 (that would have been in 1933).     “I can’t tell you how excited I was,” Laboe once told the Riverside (California) Press-Enterprise. “I unwrapped it and plugged it in. It started talking and I was completely (amazed). I think, ‘Here’s this box that talks. It’s not a person, it just talks.’”
