2 pleasant surprises this week

I toured the 1130 transmitter about 15 years ago. It was incredible. Two Nautel 60 kW transmitters, an emergency studio, a dummy load the size of a house, a generator even bigger, and a UPS that would run the transmitter for 20 minutes.

The CE pulled the main breaker on the building and nothing happened. Not a flicker. The UPS took over seamlessly. The generator didn't start because it didn't need to for five or ten minutes, and few outages in the NJ Meadowlands radio transmitter heaven last more than a few seconds.

They had to take the roof off the building to install the UPS by crane.

Well, 1130 is new to me. And as for me, I'm all over Metro-NW, centering on Acton but getting a good signal on the road in Middlesex, Worcester, and Hillsborough (NH) counties.
