My recollection was that they got a lot of elitist complaints...but the ratings showed more people were listening (and enjoying) Classical music in Boston than ever before...and , since ratings = billing....they did not change.

WCRB was at a time considered to be the most successful Classical station in the Country by some estimates.

If I recall correctly, the continued that format until the station ownership changed.
