Parenteau broke into radio at WORC at age 15, then to WLLH and a couple of stations in Detroit before returning to the area for a long run on WCOZ before moving over to WBCN. His career was derailed in 2004 while working at the former XM Satellite Radio by charges of sexual assault of a minor. He pled guilty and served 3 years in prison. I'm not sure what to do about it-- my account was NOT hacked, and I virus scan every message. But the spamming continues, in my name and in other people's. That is the usual MO. A computer gets infected with a spammer's virus that hijacks the contents of the email address book, and the hijacked addresses are spoofed in spam emails. >I'm not sure what to do about it There isn't anything you can do about it, as the problem has nothing to do with your computer or accounts. It is a problem, however, that many of us have to cope with as a result of other people who do not properly safeguard their computer security. I have three layers of security on my machines that prevent infections and protect my data including my address book. In addition, it is not likely that my address book could be stolen as I use an email client that has not been supported for a decade, and most hijack programs nowadays are looking for an address book in a current client such as Outlook or Thunderbird. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done. The Internet email protocol was designed in the 1980s before spam was even a gleam in Canter & Siegel's eyes; the contents of the headers can't be authenticated, and the malware and spamware authors know this. The only alternative from my perspective would be to make this a fully moderated mailing-list, which (given how lazy I've been at those duties) would probably kill it completely. -GAWollman From joe@attorneyross.com Thu Jun 9 00:38:01 2016 From: joe@attorneyross.com (A Joseph Ross) Date: Thu, 09 Jun 2016 00:38:01 -0400 Subject: =?UTF-8?Q?Re:_Fw:_=e2=9c=89_something_new=2c_don't_miss_up--_spam_w?= =?UTF-8?Q?atch?= In-Reply-To: <22360.49609.196020.510632@hergotha.csail.mit.edu> References: <000051afe7fa$d5baa55d$2bc0e0ce$@donnahalper.com> <5756D536.2090901@donnahalper.com> <22360.49609.196020.510632@hergotha.csail.mit.edu> Message-ID: <9dff4ca9-c3d1-af3a-ad4e-49f6d3deee55@attorneyross.com> I think we can risk an occasion spam here, at least until it becomes a serious problem, which it has not so far.
