There were a lot of shared-time arrangements way back in the early days.
I'll bet that's what was happening in Providence.

I have in my hands a copy of _Radio for All_, a book published in 1923 by
Hugo Gernsback. It includes a list of all radio stations operating in the
country as of September, 1923.

833 Khz must have been a cacophony at night; note that there were three
stations on that frequency in the same city (Providence)!
