As a free-lance writer, I always found him very courteous, and many radio and print reporters who worked with him have said he was a good guy. The link to his Boston Globe obit is here: http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2014/11/30/longtime-red-sox-publicist-dick-bresciani-dies/e07bzFaPOGNJA322WWJVdL/story.html From markwats@comcast.net Fri Dec 12 16:59:01 2014 From: markwats@comcast.net (Mark Watson) Date: Fri, 12 Dec 2014 16:59:01 -0500 Subject: WCAP To Replace Glenn Ordway With Howie Carr Message-ID: <001801d01656$d747f480$85d7dd80$@comcast.net> WCAP announced this afternoon that starting after the first of January, they will be picking up the Howie Carr show, displacing the current afternoon drive show, Glenn Ordway's Big Show Unfiltered. Howie will also make a live guest appearance on WCAP's annual Salvation Army radiothon tomorrow morning between 8:00 & 10:00 AM, and will autograph copies of his latest book for a minimum donation. Adding WCAP to Howie Carr's network will make up for some of the difficulty of picking up WMEX after sunset in the Lowell area. However, WCAP has been operating on the old Bauer backup transmitter for several weeks now, putting out just shy of 1,000 watts. At night, WOFX Troy can be heard under WCAP 3 to 4 miles (as the crow flies) in Tewksbury, in the path where the night pattern sends most of the signal. The Harris 5K has been in sick bay, don't know when or if it will be repaired/replaced. It is the original transmitter from when they built out the 5K DA-2 site in 1980. It outlasted the Museum of Cooling, CCA boards, Major's, We Care About People, TTT, Jerry Bishop, Mercier Bros. and the Cohens, who bought it for a song circa 1973 off` the floor at an NAB convention where it had been assembled, live, as a demonstration of how xmtrs could be built from a kit. I've been getting WCAP quite well here in Somerville at night lately, very listenable, with WOFX far in the background most of the time. It sounds like the old 5000 watts to me here. The day pattern is weaker here, but there's no co-channel signal in the background to compete with it in the daytime.
