As I mentioned in an earlier e-mail, the pre-Ted Jones era was a time 
when WCRB tried to be just your typical post World War II local radio 
station, with a variety of popular music, local educators from the 
Newton-Waltham area, assorted guest speakers, religion, a jazz show, 
etc.  If you looked at their typical lineup in the late 1940s, it might 
have had one or two classical shows, but nothing more.  Evidently the 
station began phasing them in gradually in the early 50s, and listener 
response was so positive, according to Jones, that the switch to 
all-classical was made officially on 8 November 1953.
