Out in the real world in the late 60s is was still a bastion of male 
chauvinsism. My ex-wife applied for a news reader job at WMAS in Springfield 
in 68 or 69, maybe 70. The news director had her read some copy, told her 
she did an excellent job, and then said "I can't hire you." She asked why 
and he replied "we don't hire women."
