Breaking News!?! Sorry WCVB, I don't think so....

If put up against each other in TV ratings, the Patriots bear out the Sox every time, unless the Sox was a playoff game. As Kevin said, it's probably because of there only being 16 games vs 162.

Also, this list is probably not a fair sample for whether sports should be considered breaking news or not. I've long noticed that there may be no other group of men that are less interested in sports than radio hobbyists/techies (ham radio, engineers, etc). There certainly are exceptions, myself and others on this list included, but as a whole, I'd say that we're well below average when it comes to sports fans. Someone I know used to be an engineer for NESN, and they knew he would be reliable and pay attention to the behind the scenes aspects of the broadcast because he had absolutely zero interest in the Red Sox.

I get the alerts about Pats/Sox stories on my phone, and don't think it's strange at all.
