Agreed about the WRKO and WEEI signals, and that the only advantage WEEI (AM) has is the slightly-better-to
Metro-West coverage (at night). Even then there could still be mixing with other 850s. I will say that yesterday when I was on Cape Cod (W. Yarmouth/Hyannis area)
WRKO had a little power line interference at times but was fairly solid. (Also by the way, as I drove to Cape
Cod on Sat. I kept checking 93.7. It came in fairly well down Rt 3, though a bit of drift around Plymouth, and
could reach Cape Cod slightly but of course WEEI's sister stations at 96.3 for Cape/Islands and 103.7
in R.I. can help on the Cape.)
By the way speaking of WNSH, that 30,000 watt day signal could actually come in (slightly) way up around
Lake Sunapee NH (with good car stereo); the 85w night signal, meanwhile, has a tough time covering the COL of Beverly!
Interesting about brokered time on WRKO. If Howie Carr flees in a year or so, will WRKO continue talk or eventually give it up? WEEI is definitely the money-maker for Entercom and even though WMKK also brought in some bucks,
they had to pull the plug to shore up WEEI--competition from Sports Hub, the demand for a static-free FM
signal, younger people preferring FM, and so on. If Entercom had a fourth FM property in town you could have seen Mike go there. The 97.7 is helpful for their WAAF signal to reach a bit further. Otherwise that could have been the new home for Mike.
By the way WEEI covers much of New England with their "network". WBZ-FM has a very good signal at 98.5
but you wonder if they may consider doing the same thing. As far as play by play goes, there are networks for
the Bruins and Patriots but you wonder if maybe CBS had other properties in New England (Hartford?) where
they could expand the coverage of their talk shows.
A Connecticut Yankee fan (not in King Arthur's Court...) says he has static trouble with WPOP in Hartford and
was hoping that the 97.9 licensed to Enfield CT might start carrying Yankees games, as a rumor goes. That station
is now WPKX doing country.
