The story I heard was that Tom Yawkey didn't like the music on 1030 during the 
50s, and part of the reason they wound up on 99.5 was that Mrs. Yawkey like the 
dixieland format. AFAIK there has never been a serious bid from WBZ for the 
package.

BTW how odd that the Red Sox have never used WBZ - they have over the decades 
been on 1260, 850, 1510, 99.5 and 680.
