Not sure what you mean...are you talking about "man in the street" 
interviews, remote broadcast-type stuff?  For my stations I've always 
gotten fairly cheap mics,  the Behringer/Shure/Audio Technica ones 
that go for 5/$99 at the broadcast supply houses.  They don't sound 
too bad for the purpose and if one gets lost, broken, stolen, etc. no big loss.
