Globe making something of nothing?

The Globe today has an article that suggest that the fact that Peter Blute 
sells ads on his radio show raises ethical questions:

To me, the question raised by the article is whether it was written because 
Blute is a Republican.

It is very common for hosts in smaller markets to also sell ad.

It is very common for radio stations to feature advertisers as guests. 
Would the local home show be promoted on a talk show if the show did not 
also buy ads?
