Somewhat OT: Times Co. threatens to shutter Boston Globe.

I remember when most newspapers ran small ads on the bottom of the front page.  If memory serves, the Globe did this almost up until the time when the type font changed, which I think was in the late '70s - early '80s.  It was a custom that went back before the turn of the century.  -Doug
