Somewhat OT: Times Co. threatens to shutter Boston Globe.

According to the American Heritage Dictionary, Fourth Edition, an ad
hominem attack is an attack on a person's character (to avoid
discussing the issues)--not an attack on something the person said or
did. I may have descended to an ad hominem attack in the message in
question, and if I did, you are entitled to criticize me for doing so,
but what you cited is NOT an example! Calling a message "rather
arrogant" does NOT constitute an attack on anybody's character. It is
a criticism of an action, not a criticism of the character of the
person who performed the action.
