I don't precisely remember what Mark Olkowski said was the reason, but
this sounds like it could be it.  Scott's page says that the DX-50
didn't care for the aux tower, and I remember the engineers there say
that they usually fired up the Continental when operation on the aux
tower was necessary.  (Also note that the 660/880 aux tower is
guy-wire top-loaded.  Or at least the old one was; it has apparently
been replaced, and I haven't seen the new one.)
