The problem is, every one of those thousands of newspapers is getting
weaker all the time. Online readers used to be able to choose from
dozens of major papers with national and foreign correspondents. Now
it's just a handful in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and
Washington, and very few others. Even those papers are cutting back
sharply. Someday, bloggers who are starved for meaningful links will
look back on these as the golden years.
