Yes--they can say they're using it to relay what Imus had said
(Hannity & callers
were using it yesterday). However in incidents like Michael Richards
at the comedy
club, talk hosts replaced the offensive word with "the N word": "So
when you have
people like Michael Richards saying...I won't say it but it's 'the N-word'..."

There was a call to band "the N word" in songs, etc., since it's
racially insensitive.
I will say however that it turns up in the long version of Stevie
Wonder's "Living for
the City" though it's being said by a policeman throwing a falsely accused black
man into a cell...maybe if people agreed not to say the word, that
would have to be
bleeped or something.
