Brudnoy was a terrific interviewer - intelligent, polite and well spoken, but when he got on his own with open phones, he was as stubborn and opinionated as they come.  

You'll find plenty of successful talk shows that aren't all about the hosts on NPR and the BBC, so it can be done.
