Immitating newscasts

I thought that ever since the 1939 "War of the Worlds" broadcast, which mimicked radio
news broadcasts, stations and networks had policies against allowing entertainment shows
to pretend to be news coverage.

Last night on "The West Wing," they featured a debate between the two Presidential
candidates in their fictitious election. As a gimmick, the debate was performed live, with a
second performance for the West Coast, as often was done with live radio shows in the old
days.

And at the bottom right corner of the screen was the word "Live," the NBC Peacock logo,
and the words "NBC News."
