Somewhat OT: recording software

Syntrillium was bought by Adobe, and all they kept was the Cool Edit Pro
program, which became $300 Adobe Audition.  Cool Edit 2000 was never free,
it cost $69 as shareware.  It was crippled for certain functions if you
didn't register it.
