Back in the 80s there was a syndicated weekly show called "Radio New 
England Magazine" or something similar (maybe it still exists, though I 
haven't heard it in years).  There was a character that dispensed homespun 
wisdom that used the name "Pickens" (no first name that I ever 
heard).  Same guy?  Kind of used that old New England yankee delivery and 
would splatter the sibilants.  Ayup.
